Facelift Surgery

How many times have you stood in front of a mirror pulling, tugging at your face looking for that youth you once had?

At some point or another we all notice a decrease in skin elasticity. A facelift helps to restore facial contours and make you appear as young as you feel. A well planned and executed facelift procedure that sustains long-lasting results will resolve these areas:

  • Drooping cheeks
  • Sagging jowls
  • Loose facial and neck muscles
  • Double chin and neck banding
  • Hanging and rough-looking skin

A facelift procedure is a dramatic aesthetic surgery that provides beautiful, natural results. With this procedure, patients achieve a smoother, younger appearance around the face and neck.

What Is a Facelift Surgery?

A Facelift, or Rhytidectomy, is intended to enhance the appearance of the face. Returning a natural, youthful look.

Factors during one’s life like aging, sun exposure and stress will induce the skin to sag and loosen up. Areas on the face, neck and jaw line are the most pronounced to the process of aging. These visible signs can make one “feel older” more than they really are. Facelift surgery will tighten, elevate and realign the skin of the facial and neck areas.

For dramatic facial rejuvenation, a facelift is sometimes paired with other cosmetic procedures like liposuction to remove excess fat or facial injectable to refresh other areas upon the face.

Candidates

Facelift Candidates

If your facial aging has gotten to the point where you no longer look or feel like yourself, you may be a good candidate for a face lift. Ideal candidates for facelift are men and women who have sagging or drooping facial skin in the lower two thirds of their face. Facelift will revive a fatigued, aged, or sunken appearance. If you have loose skin around your mouth, under your eyes, or along your jawline, Facelift will directly address these issues!

You deserve to look as young and healthy as you feel on the inside. Candidates for Facelift are those who have a mild to moderate degree of healthy skin laxity remaining. In order to receive a facelift, candidates should be non-smokers who are in overall good health and at a stable weight. Facelift candidates will need to take a period of downtime after surgery. Dr. Erfani will discuss your anticipated recovery timeline with you during your complimentary consultation.

Complementary Procedures

Each case of facial aging is different: in some cases, Facelift combined with an additional procedure is the perfect solution to a patient’s aesthetic concerns.

Dr. Sadi Erfani takes pride in providing custom cosmetic solutions to his patients.

Facelift is often combined with:

Liposuction

Do you have stubborn fat on your face or chin that refuses to respond to diet and exercise? Dr. Erfani removes fat and improves facial contours using tumescent liposuction. Tumescent liposuction is performed using a slim cannula, tiny incisions, and tumescent fluid. Tumescent fluid is a saline solution consisting of a local anesthetic and epinephrine. Tumescent fluid has the impressive ability to constrict blood vessels and cause fat cells to swell. The swollen fat is much easier to gently dislodge and remove from the body. Liposuction enables Erfani to remove unwanted fat from the face and neck for the smoothest facial contours imaginable!

Facial Injectable

When we are young, our skin is supported by a healthy supply of collagen and hyaluronic acid (HA). As our body slows its production of collagen and HA with age, volume loss occurs. The elastins stretch out. Facelift will secure the skin back into a tight, smooth position. Many patients decide to take their results a step further and restore healthy facial volume with dermal fillers. Dermal fillers like Juvederm and Restylane restore natural-looking and -feeling volume, thanks to their main ingredient, hyaluronic acid. Dermal filler injectables jumpstart the body’s collagen production in the treated area for results that last a year or more. Dermal fillers are an excellent way to add volume to the lips or cheeks, or to smooth away fine lines that often develop around the nose or mouth.

Blepharoplasty

If your upper, lower, or both eyelids droop or sag, you may be a good candidate to combine Facelift with blepharoplasty. Blepharoplasty is a careful eyelid surgery that addresses excess tissue to restore tight, lifted eyelids.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

The tone and texture of the skin can change for a number of reasons including sun damage, stress, hormone changes, lifestyle choices, or simply time. Laser skin resurfacing is the perfect way to improve the surface of the skin for clearer, smoother, younger-looking skin.

Brow or Forehead Lift

Does your brow sit lower than it used to? If your eyebrows hang over your eyes more than they used to or you have permanent lines on your forehead, you are an excellent candidate for a Brow or Forehead Lift combined with a Facelift. Brow Lift will minimize wrinkles and help restore an alert, refreshed appearance.

Procedure

Facelift Surgery

A facelift surgery procedure involves making small incisions just inside the hairline that will follow the natural contour within front of the ear. The procedure continues under the lobe of the ear to its backside and to the lower scalp. Skin tissue and deposits of fat are separated. The skin is then stretched and tightened while excess skin is removed. If the neck line is in need of attention, an incision is made beneath the chin to follow through on the same procedure. Very fine stitches close the incisions to minimize any visible scars.

A face lift can take a few hours depending on the procedure extent, technique and whether other procedures need to be performed. There are a few different facial rejuvenation procedures that can be utilized such as:

  • Upper and Lower Eyelid Surgery (blepharoplasty) to restore the eye areas
  • Laser Skin Resurfacing to promote younger, smoother more even looking skin
  • Brow or forehead lift to ease and minimize wrinkles

Recovery Process

Facelifts are a comprehensive surgery that reduce deep lines, wrinkles and folds in the skin.

After surgery, fitted bandages are placed to reduce swelling and promote recovery time. It is important to follow post-operative care instructions that require lots of rest and limited movement to speed and promote healing and recovery.

Patients sometimes report discomfort associated with surgery. This is normal and mild pain can be minimized effectively with oral medication. In the follow-up consultation, stitches are removed.

Results

Results of facelift will be apparent immediately after your surgery. You will notice much smoother facial contours and your excess, loose skin will be gone. The outcomes of facelift will continue to improve as post-procedure swelling abates. Final results of facelift emerge within eight weeks.

Costs of Facelift

Facelift Cost

The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery reported that the cost of a face lift was approximately $8500 on a national US average. (Additional costs like facility fee, staff, prescription medicines, special bandages, etc. were not factored in). However, the charge can be much higher depending on the desired result of the client, age range and condition of one’s skin.

Facelifts are a long-lasting procedure that benefits the patient’s facial aesthetic but also boosts their confidence.

The trend for this procedure is growing, especially as aesthetic advances continue to produce better and longer-lasting results. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Facelift reported that over 131,000 facelift procedures were performed in 2016. One year prior, 125,800 people across the US underwent facelift surgery medically termed as a rhytidectomy (the lateral removal of wrinkles).
