Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is used to correct droopy eyelids, puffiness around the eyes, and reduce sagging skin most often associated with aging. The cosmetic procedure involves removing excess skin and fat from the upper and or lower eyelids that results in a long lasting, rested, alert, and more youthful appearance. Blepharoplasty surgery can be performed as a single procedure, but usually accompanies a brow lift or facelift to produce comprehensive results. In 2016 over two hundred thousand eyelid procedures were performed in the US; increasing 2 percent since the previous year.

Before & After Photos

Eyelid Surgery Procedure

This procedure removes excess fat and tissue from the upper and lower eyelids. Dr. Erfani maintains the natural look of the eye by applying external incisions along the natural lines of the eyelids. On the upper eyelid, an incision is made along the fold or crease. Excess fat and loose skin is then removed. Small, fine sutures are used to delicately close the incisions. For the lower eyelid, incisions are made just below the lower lashes. Fat may be redistributed to remove puffiness or “eye bags.” The result is younger, more attentive eyes.

Blepharoplasty surgery takes from one to two hours depending on the patient. A general anesthesia is administered to provide maximum comfort.

Recovery

Blepharoplasty recovery times differ for each patient and stitches will remain in the eyelids for about a week to ensure proper healing. Swelling and bruising often occur but diminishes within one to two weeks. An ointment is prescribed to keep the stitches lubricated and eye drops are used to relieve any dry or itching sensations. These measures are taken to preventing infection and promote healing. Patients are recommended to keep their head elevated to accelerate healing and relieve discomfort.

Cost

The average cost for a lower or upper eyelid surgery is around $3,500, while an operation on both eyelids is around $5,000. When combined with other cosmetic surgery procedures, additional Blepharoplasty surgery discounts may be considered.
