Dermal Fillers

Conveniently located to serve the areas of San Diego and La Jolla

Are you noticing more fine lines and wrinkles on your face and hands? Do you feel like your face is developing an aged appearance? It is common for our faces to lose volume and develop fine lines and wrinkles as we age. Restore youthful facial volume while diminishing the appearance of aging signs like wrinkles. Dermal fillers can present an excellent opportunity to turn back time without having to consider plastic surgery. Fillers are used to add volume to help contour the face. The results are a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

Areas Of Treatment

Dermal fillers, commonly known as injectables, volumizers or soft-tissue fillers, temporarily correct noticeable conditions associated with age such as wrinkles, lines and creases. Injectables are used to plump-up the cheeks, areas of the jaw and lips. The back of the hands are also suited for treatment.

When dermal fillers are paired with other injectables like Botox or Xeomin, the combined treatment is referred to as a liquid facelift.

Types Of Injectables

A range of dermal fillers are available and are manufactured with either synthetic or natural components. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural component readily found between tissues of the joints or around the eye areas when young, but progressively decreases as we age. HA has the capacity to absorb approximately 1,000 times its weight in water. This ability plays an invaluable role in facial rejuvenation. Soft tissue fillers made with HA have the inherent capability to remain plump while feeling smooth under the skin. Using fillers made with hyaluronic acid are very popular choices in facial rejuvenation.

In addition, research has shown that collagen production is stimulated with the continued use of hyaluronic acid fillers. Collagen plays a crucial role to keeping the skin supple and firm. The working combination of these genetic components are beneficial to healthy vibrant skin. Over time, patients may benefit by having less filler and may possibly extend their sessions between scheduled treatments.

Prolonged use of dermal fillers will result in the skin increasing its production of collagen.

The three injectables made from hyaluronic acid that are most often recommended are Juevederm (Ultra, Ultra Plus, Voluma & Volbella) and Restylane.

Each product is primarily designed and FDA approved to treat the laugh lines surrounding the mouth referred to as the Nasolabial Folds. However, fillers are used to volumize or fill in other areas on the face like the cheeks and lips. Each different filler can produce a slightly different result. During consultation, the supervising plastic surgeon can determine which injectable, amount and technique is best.

How Treatment Is Administered

Dermal filler sessions are fast and typically take fifteen minutes.

Like Botox or Xeomin, treatment is administered with injections. For patients who are sensitive to discomfort, a numbing cream will be applied prior to the procedure. A thin needle is then administered to the areas previously determined in the patient’s personal consultation with Dr. Erfani. Injections will be applied over a period of about fifteen minutes. After the administration is complete, the patient will be free to return to their regular schedule. Dermal injections require no downtime.

Considerations

Some type of pain or discomfort is almost always associated with aesthetic procedures. A little bleeding and bruising around the sites of injection should be considered a normal part of the process. Within 36 hours of treatment both pain and skin discoloration should have subsided.

Once treated, the desired results are commonly achieved. However, individual results may vary. Some patients have expressed that one injectable filler is worth it while other patients disagree. Everyone is similar but we are ultimately unique in our anatomy and tastes. It may be necessary to try different filler treatments to discover which one provides the best result.

Dermal filers are an ideal treatment for patients who don’t have a lot of time in their schedule to undergo an invasive cosmetic surgery.

Depending on the area of the face treated, skin condition and injection technique, the desired effects of fillers can possibly last up to a year. Continued treatment with soft tissue fillers will be necessary to maintain desired appearance.

The trend for injectable treatments is growing. If you are considering facial rejuvenation, dermal fillers are a viable option that will transform your face. Come in for your personal consultation to meet with Dr. Sadi Erfani today!
