Although plastic surgery was not formally coined until the 20th century, the advancement of various plastic surgery services appears universally tied to one’s desire to look young. The first documented cases of plastic surgery dates back to over 3,000 years ago in Ancient Egypt. The Egyptians believed that the face would be carried over into the afterlife and prepped their Pharaoh upon death to be received by altering his facial features. As civilization evolved, the practice of making changes on the face then spread to the body. Practitioners manipulated areas sustained by physical trauma like from war or defects acquired from disease and or birth. Legendary tales of a magical spring that could make one young again in the old world have been repeated for centuries. After Ponce De Leon failed to find the Fountain of Youth in 1513, medicine and science replaced lore to carry this field forward.
